Atherton Tablelands

Heading southwest from Cairns before heading to the outback. The tablelands are a wetland rainforest with many waterfalls, hills and small quiet villages. We enjoyed stopping at the many little towns with lots of sight to see, lots of waterfalls, windy roads and many hills. Again we put our car to the test, she did well.

Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation

This was a very long but educational day. In short this is where the rainforest meets the ocean. We saw crocodiles, tree frogs, giant lizards and lots and lots of trees.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling The Great Barrier Reef

We have now reached Cairns, after driving much of the day (8hrs). We loved Cairns, a big tourist and backpackers spot. A must stop to see the reef.
When in the Great Barrier Reef you have to snorkel and scuba dive, so we took a boat out to the reef and spent the day scuba diving and snorkelling. It was fantastic.! We saw thousands of fish and beautiful corals and even a big sea turtle swam with us. It was a great day!

Whitsundays, White Haven Beach

Our next stop was Whitsundays. The Whitsundays are a bunch of islands with Whitsunday being the largest. It has the most beautiful beach we've ever seen. White powder sand, with crystal blue water. It is the start of the great barrier reef. We took a boating cruise for the day. Where we went snorkelling, swimming, had lunch on the beach and some much needed relaxing and sunbathing.
