Johannesburg and Soweto

Everybody said"Don't go to Jo-Burg it is dangerous". Well my flight to Ghana left out of Jo-Burg so I went in for one day. My real goal was to do a Soweto tour and see the Appartheid museum. Soweto is where school children protested and started the movement that really lead to the end of Appartheid. The church is where many of the children ran to when the police started shooting real bullets at them. There holes in the church to show where police shot inside the church. It was really interesting to see the very rich with the very poor all in one area. I was surprised at what it was really like compared to what I had perceived. The Appartheid museum is an excellent display of the years of work it took to end this oppresive movement. A very moving day in South Africa for my last day.

The Orphanage

The site of this orphange was incredible. It is surrounded by the Drakensberg mountains in a beautiful field. A beautiful site for a great cause.

A great project

One of the interesting things about travelling is the people you meet along the way. Spending so much time in the Drakensberg I met 2 guys who were staying in the same dorm as me that were working on building and orphanage in a local village. Robin introduced me to Chantal and her husband who are all from Belgium and they allowed me come and visit and work at their orphanage site. This was a great day because Robin and his friend ( whose name I have lost) took me along to the work site. One of the best parts of the day was that the two guys did a juggling clinic with students at the local school for several days during their trip. I was there on their last couple of days and got to see how far these kids had come with their training and the kids were teaching me how to do this. It was a great time to get some culture after having spent so much time seeing beautiful countryside. Seeing Chantal and these guys give each student one of the juggling items to keep was special because the kids really responded and were happy to get something to take with them to remeber these people.
