Last Days of the Trip

My last couple of days I spent in Accra which is the capital of Ghana. I had a great last nights meal with Alex and Wilna who are friends of Mal and Barb Cook. They provided a beautiful last meal with a great atmosphere and an excellent way to end my trip. Accra itself is a very large sprawling city with many houses and businesses.

Last day at KITA

The time went very quickly at KITA and working with the students was excellent. Projects like this have many things you take away from them both good and bad.

More of Kumasi

The Cultural Centre

Kumasi has a large cultural centre which sells many crafts. The day we were there they were having a celebration with all of the chiefs from the local area. The president of the country was also present and it was great to see the positive reception he received upon his arrival. People were dressed in formal dress which is very colourful. To see the chiefs being marched in was really unique. Foo Foo is one of the traditional dishes and the bowl shows my half completed meal.

Kumasi Market

Kumasi is the largest city near where I stayed in Ghana. The market is very busy and quite overwhelming. You can buy just about anything from this market.

Appomase School

This is the second of the schools that Michelle has been working with for the Future Farmers of Ghana club. The number of students that showed up was overwhelming as they tried to start their planting bed project.

Things in Ghana

When you travel you get to see and experience many different things. One was the water in a bag that you drink. If you want to buy something you can often find it from people walking by selling on the street when you are in a tro tro or cab.

Projects at KITA

Students have several projects they work and these are just a few examples.

Fun at KITA

Since the students live at the KITA site they have to have some things to do for fun. One of their relaxing sports is table tennis ( ping pong ). They also have responsibilities like any student to do laundry and clean their rooms of course in this case all laundry is done by hand with buckets.

Domeabra

One of the Projects Michelle was working on was called the Future Farmers of Ghana Club. This group was working with kids at the local elementary school to encourage them to become farmers. The project is very hands on and fun for students to try and grow their own crops. You can see that many students were very enthusiastic and involved in the project.
