Community visit

One thing we have really liked so far about Intrepid tours is that they use local guides and provide local experiences for their trips. One such experience was to visit a hill community where they dressed us up in authentic clothing, showed us about farming and weaving and then cooked us a meal which included Guinea Pig a local delicacy.

Cuzco

Cuzco is the city that is the jumping off point for Machupicchu.  It is also 3400 meters above sea level so this is where you will start to feel altitude sickness if you get it. Dianne and I are doing the train trip up to Machupicchu so we are back and forth from Cuzco as we drop part of our group off to trek in another city and come back. The city is very relaxing with many great restaurants, coffee shops and shopping areas. Norma our tour guide lives in Cuzco so she was able give us an authentic tour of the city. Cuzco was once the capital of the Inca people but was destroyed by the Spanish when they came into the country.
